Streb: Pop Action

2002 / 58 min. / color
Directed by Michael Blackwood

Streb: Pop Action presents a thrilling day spent with Elizabeth Streb as she reveals the extraordinary possibilities of dance. Streb speaks to us about her method and theory while leading an intensive rehearsal where her dancers bounce, jump, and fly, rarely letting their feet touch the ground. For Streb, action is the message and impact is essential, as it is that sudden interruption of movement that calls to question the body’s relationship to space and time. Through her unique brand of captivating, non-stop and shockingly abrupt motion, Streb creates an atmosphere that forces her audience to the edge of their seats as they become entirely involved with the dancers on stage. Fascinated by mobility, expression and sound Streb strives to utilize the body in every way possible and in doing so produces an unforgettable and deeply moving performance.
